Formal steps at the beginning of your studies

At the beginning of your studies, you must officially register with the university in order to become a full student at the University of Bonn. In addition, you must apply once for "Admission to the Bachelor's examination" at the Economics Examination Office, or if you are studying in the accompanying subject, you must register.

Enrollment

By enrolling, you become a full student of the University of Bonn. Enrollment takes place at the Student Registry1, Poppelsdorfer Allee 49, 53115 Bonn.

There are no admission restrictions for the degree program "B.Sc. Economics". You can enroll directly online. The term "application portal" on the enrollment website is initially confusing. You formally "apply", but are admitted immediately and your application for enrollment is accepted. As soon as the university has received the semester fee, your Uni-ID will be activated and you can access the service portal for students. From a legal point of view, you gain student status from 1st April (summer semester) or 1st October (winter semester).

From then on, your student ID card and the semester ticket for public transport will be valid. Both are available in the "Uni Bonn App2."

For the admission-restricted partial degree program "Economics" (two-subject/main and accompanying subject), enrollment takes place after you have received a letter of admission with an enrollment deadline (admission in August, enrollment in September).

The documents required for enrollment3 can be found on the website of the Student Registry1.

Admission to the Bachelor's Examination Process

At the beginning of the degree program, each student must apply once for "admission to the Bachelor's examination". This does not mean that you register for a specific exam (this comes later), but you must be admitted to the overall examination procedure, which covers the entire duration of your studies and includes all examinations. There may also be obstacles to admission, e.g. if you have already studied economics and have definitively lost your right to take examinations. You must complete a data sheet on the website of the Examination Office and submit the following documents:

  • Certificate of enrollment from the Student Registry or student ID.
  • Credit transfer documents if you have previous studies that you would like to have credited.

The deadlines for admission6 can be found on the website of the Examination Office7.

If you are studying Economics as an accompanying subject, you must register with the Economics Examination Office at the beginning of the semester in which you begin your accompanying subject studies.
