A new episode of the ECONtribute economics podcast is online. In the first of two special episodes on the Bundestag elections on February 23, host Carolin Jackermeier talks to Christian Bayer, Professor of Macroeconomics (University of Bonn), and Felix Bierbrauer, Professor of Economics at ECONtribute at the University of Cologne, about whether a new federal government can save the economy, whether the debt brake should be suspended and whether the announced tax reforms are realistic or just standard election campaign rhetoric.

We also look at which of the parties' proposals make economic sense, how they are to be financed and why election promises can be dangerous.

The topic of the first part of our election special is debt, taxes and reforms.
