Since introducing the new “Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS)” method in 2017, Bonn's economic sciences have been ranked first in Germany.
The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects contains rankings of universities in 55 subjects related to natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medicine, and social sciences.
The rankings list more than 1,900 universities from 96 countries and regions. They use a range of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure the performance of the world's universities in each subject.
A new methodology was introduced in 2024: The original five indicators (number of articles in highly and most highly cited journals, number of most highly cited publications, international co-publications and prizes/awards) have now been expanded to include four indicators (category “World Class Faculty”): International Academic Award Laureates, Highly Cited Researchers, Chief Editors of International Academic Journals, and International Academic Organization Leadership.
