Department of Economics

The University of Bonn’s Department of Economics is one of the strongest research departments in the field of economics in Europe. Through research and teaching, we aim to contribute to addressing major societal challenges and to provide impulses for effective and evidence-based economic policy. Our focus is on the education of young economists from the bachelor's to the doctoral level.

Teaching awards 2024/254
Every year, the Rectorate of the University of Bonn and the Department of Economics award teaching awards to lecturers who have made outstanding achievements in teaching. The teaching awards recognize and highlight excellent teaching at the University of Bonn. There are four award categories for economics courses, which take into account the different framework conditions and requirements for teaching in terms of the number of participants, compulsory or elective courses. One teaching award is presented by the Rectorate, the other three by the Department of Economics.

Bundesbank Science Prize 20256
Ms. Paula Jacobs received the Bundesbank Science Prize 2025 for excellent theses for her Master's thesis “Above and Below Zero: Bank Lending in a Post-Negative Policy Rate Era.” The prize was awarded on June 24, 2025 by the President of the North Rhine-Westphalia Head Office of the Deutsche Bundesbank, Mr. Christian Otto, at the Juridicum in Bonn. This year's prize was endowed with 2,000 euros. We would like to congratulate the winner!
