"Philipp Strack from Bonn is one of the world's most research-oriented economists. Some even consider the young Yale professor a candidate for the Nobel Prize” is how WirtschaftsWoche explains its choice. With the “Deutschlands 30 bis 2030” initiative, WirtschaftsWoche honors people from Germany who “encourage others with their ideas, projects or companies, create innovations and breakthroughs and are exemplary in their field”. Economist Philipp Strack, who graduated from the Department of Economics at the University of Bonn and completed his doctorate at the Bonn Graduate School of Economics, is one of the 30 award winners in 2024.

For the first time this year, WirtschaftsWoche is honoring 30 people from Germany who “will shape, change and advance our country by the end of this decade”. Philipp Strack, Professor of Economics at Yale University and Bonn graduate, is among the award winners. Philipp Strack received his doctorate from the Faculty of Law and Economics in 2013 after completing degrees in mathematics and economics at the University of Bonn and studying at the Bonn Graduate School of Economics. Today he is a professor at the renowned Yale University. “The doctoral program in economics at the University of Bonn is simply outstanding,” praises Strack, ”it gave me a good start - also for the USA.” From there, he continued his collaboration with Bonn researchers, which has led to numerous high-ranking publications.

Strack maintains close contact with Bonn. His current list of publications includes seven working papers and published studies, which he wrote together with Benny Moldovanu, director of the BGSE and the Institute of Microeconomics as well as a member of the Cluster of Excellence ECONtribute. He also works with Prof. Botond Köszegi (Institute for Applied Microeconomics), and a Cluster of Excellence ECONtribute member.

Further, he collaborates with Prof. Andreas Kleiner and Prof. Mengxi Zhang, both also from the Institute of Microeconomics and members of the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics Cluster of Excellence at the University of Bonn, specifically on new analytical approaches in mechanism design.
