University of Notre Dame (USA)
The University of Notre Dame is a private Catholic university founded by a French priest as early as 1842. It currently has 10,000 students and is located in the US state of Indiana, near the city of South Bend. The Department of Economics presents itself as a "neoclassical economics department committed to rigorous theoretical and quantitative analysis." The Times Higher Education Rankings in Economics and Econometrics lists Notre Dame as the 170th best university in the world.

Exchange offer:
- Acceptance as a master's student into the first year of Notre Dame's PhD program in Economics with the option to complete the full five-year PhD program there as well.
- Students have their first-year tuition waived and receive a $19,000 stipend; for that, they would have to work up to 18 hours a week.

- Application is possible in the first master's semester; selection is based on examination performance, among other factors.

Studying at the University of Notre Dame:
Procedure:
- Application deadline at Notre Dame is Dec. 31, but a grace period until March 15 is possible.
- Selected students attend Notre Dame for the first year of the MA/PhD program.
- Students attend 3 lectures of 4 hours each (Macro I and II, Micro I and II, Econometrics I and II) and take the comprehensive exams at the end of the first year.
- With a passing score at the PhD level, participating students have the option to enter the PhD program at Notre Dame.
- If they pass at the Master's level, participating students return to the University of Bonn.
- The Bonn Master's program is completed in all cases; the period from May to August or September (returnees) is used to write the Master's thesis. (Fall Term: Mid-August - early January, Spring Term: Mid-January - Mid-May).
